Pirate

I thought we agreed no scaring of the Pirate. Not when he's thousands of miles away.

At least the Dashing Major is there. That's something.

Can't say I'm happy with you taking Piotr the Protective in. Yeah it makes sense in a you kinda way. Not what I'd have done though.

On that front. I've sent some info to Techy Trevor. He has some useful pals. They'll be able to find out when this guy got into the country. And if any of the others are over here.

I'm booked in to do some work for the guys shortly - I'll be back over there. And according to the diary you're down there around the same time. We can catch up.

It's kinda put some pressure on getting as much done this side as I can in the time.

On that front. Great-uncle Marty is still alive. We tracked him down. And some good news for once. Mind as sharp as a knife. Body - not so. Bed bound now. In some nursing home run by nuns of all things.

They give me the willies - nuns. They glide. Silently.

Oh yeah I took dad with me. I've told him about what we're looking into. All of it. I know - not like me. Turning sentimental in my old age.

Anyway Great-uncle Marty was happy to see us. Dad in particular. Was surprised at that. And he was happy to talk. Oh boy did he talk. Clearly where dad gets it from.

He talked about the good ol' days like some mobster film. Seems gran's family were big players in the day. Ran various rackets - and to hear it from him various towns. Gramps' family were small fry. Wanted to play in the big league so orchestrated the marriage. Seems gramps didn't have the stomach for the work. No ambition was how Great-uncle Marty told it. He wanted out. Gran wasn't happy.

Great-uncle Marty called gramps stupid and careless. The stint inside. Now looking back on it though he thinks he did it deliberately. To get out of the bigger stuff. No-one would trust him with anything important after that.

Seems gran's family are catholic. She wanted a divorce but it wasn't the done thing. So she was stuck with him. No-one was happy about that. They knew about the thing with Great-uncle Frank. And yeah he thinks he's probably dad's father. Great-uncle Frank had promise. He'd have been Great-uncle Marty's choice for his sister. Not that anyone asked him.

As for Great-uncle Bojo. Yeah they all knew about his parentage. I won't repeat his assessment of great-grandad. It was colourful (colorful!) to say the least. Also he hinted at the fact that they may have hastened his passing. When they found out. He wouldn't say anymore on that front. Only that it coloured (colored! dammit!) their view of the family generally.

But they didn't like Great-uncle Bojo. Not just his parentage but how he was. Again I can't repeat the words he used to describe him. His brother, Great-uncle Max, in particular didn't like him. Didn't like him near his sister. Like he would contaminate her. So when they found out he had a soft spot for her - well. He didn't know for certain but his guess - Great-uncle Max would have sorted it.

Putting him under the floorboards though. Not their MO. Someone else must have done that. They'd have buried him somewhere. They had various business properties. Out of the town sites. Max would have buried him there. And buried him deep.

Which reminded me about the deed you found. The one in Philly. I found the email you sent from the Mother-ship and asked him about that.

Yeah that was one of theirs. They signed it over to gramps in the early days. That's what they did. Spread the property around. Spread the risk. That was a mistake giving it to gramps. They didn't repeat that again.

So it seems Great-uncle Marty may have given us all we need to know. Except one thing. The cash. I figured there was no harm in asking. If it was his he could have it back. I didn't need it. Or want it.

He laughed when I told him about it. Not a nice sound. Hate to think what this guy was like when he was younger. And he was by all accounts the better of the two brothers. Jeez.

Anyway yes he knew who gramps was holding the money for. Was surprised he still had it. Grudgingly he respected him for that at least. But I didn't need to hold it. Everyone associated with it was gone. I had his blessing to do whatever I wanted to do with it.

Dad and I agreed on what we wanted to do with it. And the creepy nuns are very welcome to it.
