A quick getaway

Lady

Having found it I understood that you had to call it in as soon as possible or it would look suspicious.

I was glad that I had brought my laptop with me which was the only thing I would have hesitated to leave behind. The clothes that were at your apartment in New York could stay there for now. I didn't need them.

You of course were staying in Indiana until you knew what the authorities wanted you to do but I checked out. I had packed the items we had found carefully amongst my clothes in my carry-on bag. I understand you wanting to put the metal box back in the wall, now empty of its contents. That did make sense if the loose brickwork was so obvious and of course it would give the police something to find.

As we drove from Indiana to Pittsburgh we discussed our next steps. I would go through what we had retrieved from the house and then let you have whatever information might be of use. I also wanted to work on the family tree and you felt that would be helpful. Perhaps in doing that it might cast some light on the family and what they were up to.

You would go back to the house and call the body in and wait for the police to arrive. We both felt quite sure that it was Great-uncle Bojo but for the time being at least you felt that it was better to see what the police discovered than offer up the suggestion.

And so it was with a rather heavy heart that I jumped out of the car at the departures entrance and headed home. It wasn't that I wanted to stay and get involved in what you termed the 'circus' but more that I wanted to be there with you and for us to discover things together. But of course I understood. This way at least you could focus on dealing with the authorities rather than worrying about them involving me.

The most direct flights went to London and I did think about contacting the Dashing Major but I just wanted to go home. I would of course update him and you had already told me that I could tell him everything. You didn't want any secrets between us all.

But I suppose like you I needed to process all this. And if I'm being really honest with you, which I do try to be, for now at least I wanted this to be our adventure. I'm sure he wouldn't interfere or anything but just for now I wanted to take this home and look at it on my own. Is that bad?

So I got the train from London to Leeds and was met at the station by the Mother-ship. Father-dearest was at a botany conference, ironically in Georgia, so as one family member was leaving the US the other was flying in. I had explained to her that something urgent had come up for you and I had therefore decided to come home rather than get under your feet. And of course I wanted to see what progress had been made with the house.

All that seemed to satisfy her curiosity and she happily filled in the time it took us to get back to the parent's house updating me on what work had been completed and what was in progress. I in turn told her about my run in with Luscious Lydia. Which does now feel like an age ago and of no significance given recent events. She expressed some disappointment in my behaviour because as the older sister I should have had more restraint, but she did understand and obviously Luscious Lydia's behaviour towards the Dashing Major was appalling. She had heard nothing from her, which under normal circumstances was not unusual, but in previous fall-outs my little sister did try to get her version of events in first so I was little surprised.

And the good news was that in relation to the house the basics were there and installed and I could seriously contemplate moving in.

Which would give me the space and the privacy I needed to start going through the papers and seeing if we might discover what had happened to Great-uncle Bojo.

If indeed we are correct and it is him.
